Have I mentioned lately how much I love Izzle pfaff!? Because it bears repeating. His writing can be twisted and weird, but also charming and sweet.

From the latest entry:

The wife and I celebrated Labor Day, of course, by forcing labor upon our friendly neighborhood bartender at the Bar That Shall Not Be Named.

"Kevin," we said--see how bold I've become! Names and everything!--"Kevin, labor for us. Make us Lillet cocktails. Bring us warm nuts. Then do some jumping jacks. You will begin after our timed handclaps. Begin!" *clap clap clap*

We got everything but the jumping jacks. Washington State has some slack-ass bartenders, if you ask me.

As we sat there, nursing our first drinks, two lovely ladies entered. I would estimate their collective age to be nine hundred years. "Hello, ladies," said Kevin.

"WHAT?" The first lady bellowed. Here is where I began to love them. They sat down two stools away from us, gingerly climbing up on the things with spiderlike care and precision.

Okay, I'll bite. (do I hear groans from the peanut gallery?)
The Omnivore's Hundred Meme.

The Omnivore's Hundred is a list of foods the gastronomic Andrew Wheeler thinks everyone should try at least once in their lives. (via everyone)

The rules of the meme:
1) bold those you have tried
2) strikethrough those you wouldn't eat on a bet.
2a) Italicize any item you'll never eat again.
2b) Asterisk any items you'd be interested in trying but have not yet.

Scientist finds fossilized claw of man-sized sea scorpion:

"We have known for some time that the fossil record yields monster millipedes, super-sized scorpions, colossal cockroaches, and jumbo dragonflies. But we never realized until now just how big some of these ancient creepy-crawlies were."

The rest of the story, sadly without a photo of the actual fossil.

14. Housekeeper
15. Zoologist
16. Physical Therapist
17. Dental Assistant
18. Respiratory Therapist
19. Esthetician
20. Radiation Therapist

The actual list goes up to forty and I'm surprised that Massage Therapist isn't even on there. It's funny because they aaaaaalmost got it right. Even though there are similarities and overlap between what I do and Chiropractic and Physical Therapy, they approach the musculoskeletal system differently enough that they don't appeal to me which I why I didn't bold them.

I don't think I could actually be a vet or a vet tech because I can't stand to see an animal in pain. People? Fine. You can talk to people and tell them you are trying to help them, animals are tougher. Also it would speed me on my way towards Lady With Too Many Cats and I'm saving that for my later years.

Also: One of those things is not like the others.

pain in the butt
*Sigh*

I've always been fond of spiders. I'll catch and release whenever I find one in the house, and respect their webs no matter where they are. I've pulled over and found a bush to place one in when it was in my car, and gotten them out of high traffic areas if I thought they'd be trampled. Well, I do these things with all kinds of buggy creatures (except ants. I squash ants. I admit it.)

But I have a particular soft spot for spiders.

One of them took that literally while I was sleeping the night before last, because I woke up with a bite. On my butt. I went to the doctor this morning who gave me antibiotics and told me to apply a hot compress so the infection will come to the surface. It was too deep to lance, about which I feel slightly relieved, since I don't like the sound of that. Also? I got painkillers. Helloooo Vicadin.

We don't know for sure it was a spider, but I haven't really seen anyone else bitey around the house.

Ow.
